Question: Prolapsed, thrombosed, or strangulated hemorrhoids

LynnL - Wed Mar 02, 2005 3:05 am

In all of the articles I have read all state thrombosed Hemorrhoids are 1/2 to 1 cm in size. I have a lump that is purple in color, external that is 1 cm wide and about 2 cm long. Is this abnormal for a thormbosed? I would prefer not to go to the doctor but Preperation H so far has given no relief from the pain in 10 days.
I have a job where I sit a lot although I do stand and walk around thanks to a cordless headset.
Will this resolve itself or do I need to worry this may be something else?
Theresa Jones, RN - Wed Mar 02, 2005 8:49 am

Hi LynnL,
Have you also tried using cool compresses? This helps decrease the blood flow and may help decrease the size. Also make sure that you are not having problems with Constipation, eat plenty of fiber rich foods and drink plenty of water so there isn't irritation from this as well. If these approaches do not alleviate the problem then I would suggest an evaluation.
Sincerely,
Rntdj
